Givey heads out to the crowd

Givey, the social giving platform aiming to create a culture of everyday giving, has 44 days left in its bid to raise £500,000 through Crowdcube, the online equity-based crowdfunding platform.

Givey has developed a unique instant matching engine that enables businesses to instantly match employees’ giving to any of the platform’s 7,647 registered charities.

Matching is an effective way for businesses to increase employee engagement (which costs UK businesses £26billion a year) and it is a proven way to increase giving behaviour. Research by TechSoup in the US shows that mentioning a match increases response rate by 71% and average donation amount by 51%.

So far 11% of all donations on Givey have been matched; and the company plans to increase this to over 50% by encouraging more businesses to use their instant matching engine. Businesses pay for this (£1 per match) which enables 100% of all donations made through the platform to go to the chosen charity. The money raised by Givey on Crowdcube will be used to power the growth in business clients and help more charities feel the benefit of instant matching.

Julian Barrell, Director of Fundraising at Prince’s Trust, said: “Payroll giving is not something that is working for The Prince’s Trust … what we are seeing is increasing take-up of new technologically-enabled methods of giving, for example online giving communities such as Givey, where users can donate at a click of a button.”

Joe Saxton from nfpSynergy, the UK’s leading charity sector research consultancy, said: “I have had a keen interest in seeing Givey’s development over the last 3 years, we at nfpSynergy know that mobile, micro giving is growing and that donation matching typically dramatically increases donation behaviour, so I am keen to see how far Givey can go in delivering its vision of changing the giving landscape through ‘Instant Matching’.”
