OpenMarket to power mobile donations for Sport Relief

UK charity Comic Relief has selected mobile engagement company OpenMarket to power text donations for its 2014 Sport Relief fundraising campaign.

The custom-built SMS donation system for Sport Relief’s 2014 campaign will be handled entirely by Open Market, and allow people to donate to the appeal by sending a message to a five-digit code.

We chose OpenMarket for its proven track record in the charity sector, delivering a reliable mobile platform that can scale to support  multiple concurrent fundraising projects, all running nationwide,” explained Jacqueline Hill, Head of Campaign Management at Comic Relief.

We were particularly impressed by OpenMarket’s in-depth knowledge of the mobile donations domain and the speed with which they delivered a solution that met all of the needs of our 2014 Sport Relief campaign.”

The OpenMarket platform will support text-based donations for more than 20 separate Sport Relief fundraising projects across the UK, and kicked off last month at the launch of the special Sport Relief editions of the BBC show “The Great British Bake Off”.

The wider Sport Relief digital campaign includes online games to help encourage supporters to get involved, as well as an integrated Fundraising Leaderboard to help fuel competition between doners looking to raise money for the cause.

Celebrities around the country have also pledged their support for Sport Relief, most famously Davina McCall, who recently suffered exhaustion on her charity swim, before jumping back on a bike and tweeting “I’m OK. That was hairy. Thank you for all the support. I’m about to get on a bike.” That’s the charity spirit!
