Nonprofits and Jelly: A Tasty Social Media Sandwich

Point, shoot and ask – Jelly is a new app created by Twitter geniuses Biz Stone and Ben Finkel that uses your social networks and your friends' networks to get answers to your questions. Think of it as a visual search engine powered by your social web.

I immediately thought of how nonprofits could leverage this technology. The LIVESTRONG Foundation has always been known for their forward thinking in the technology space. (In full disclosure- I worked there for years.) So I was not surprised to see that they were dabbling in the technology. I called up my old boss Travis Rimel, Director of Creative Strategy at LIVESTRONG, and asked him what his thoughts were on this new platform.

"I think it will be fun and could really help our constituents. We recently started a campaign called "Cancer Hacks" that allows people to submit their suggestions for how to deal with the daily issues that come up when you have cancer. The Jelly platform would be a perfect complement to our new model of crowd-sourcing cancer support. We can't wait to see how it evolves."

I answered one of LIVESTRONG‘s questions yesterday to test it out. Here’s how it works:

1) LIVESTRONG asks a question on Jelly
2) People respond with their answers
3) The Foundation replies with a “Thank You”.
