The Nonprofit Weekly Roundup: Re-Engagement Campaigns, Millennials, and SEO

Admittedly, this roundup was a little more difficult for me to put together.

Maybe it was that I wrote it while listening to the stressful Tennessee Vols vs. Florida Gators game.

Maybe it was because my air conditioning is broken and the Charleston heat doesn’t seem to care  too much.

or…

Maybe it was because sometimes things that begin as a fun project somehow and someway become a chore.

stay with me

I started this roundup as a way to give back, even if in the smallest of ways, to the nonprofit community. Somewhere between finishing the last roundup and starting this one, I think I forgot to refuel.(Or maybe…it really was the Tennessee Vols..)

What I realized through my Vol-induced, sweat-accompanied stress of a blog-writing session is that if you get too far away from the root of why you started a project- if you let outside influences weigh down your creative juices- you'll end up staring at a fork in the road that goes by the name fatigue.

I hope this week's roundup keeps you on the right track:

  1. We Miss you! A Creative Re-Engagement Email Campaign by DJ Waldow on the Brand Driven digital blog. This post highlights the success of NTEN’s campaign to re-engage the 24,000 subscribers who had not opened an email from them in the past year. We know that retention is the new acquisition, and as DJ mentions in regards to a re-engagement email campaign- the best practice is the one that’s best for your subscriberes (and your business).
  2. On Guidestar’s blog, Rob Wu of CauseVox  unveils the essential ingredient to any successful online fundraising campaign: social media.  Like any other channel, social media is a means to an end, a way to engage with your supporters. Learn how to effectively use social media to inspire audience action in this post: How to Use Social Media for Nonprofit Crowdfunding.
  3. In this NTEN blog post, How Can I Love You If You Don’t Know My Name? Steve Birnbaum of SofTrek Corporation  points out the dangers of “ineffective”  data management and offers guidance  to ensure your organization effectively uses data and facts to ensure constituent-centric communication.
  4. The Next Generation of American Giving study is continuing to be a hot topic. In Daniel Melbye’s post, What Nonprofits Should Know About Next Generation Fundraisers, he dissects the report and offers up some pretty important stats in easy-to-digest pieces. Moral of the story, millennials have unique engagement preferences- it’s crucial that your organization is considering ways to speak to them on their terms.
  5. In a guest post by Teddy Hunt on Socialbrite entitled SEO 101: 10 ways to make your website more findable , he gives the run down on how to ensure your nonprofit’s website is getting the visibility your mission requires. In this age of digital, getting found is key ingredient to the success of your new donor acquisition and online fundraising strategies.
  6. Ryan Crowe writes for Social Fish about the keys to crafting an engaging blog post here: 5 Must Haves for Every Good Blog Post. The advice in this post is a compilation of suggestions offered up by social media professionals involved in Ryan’s Google+  community. Take a look at what blogging experts and natives have to say on the topic.

How were week’s highlights? Did I miss anything?

Let’s talk about it.

Yours truly,

@MaddieTplease
